Assessment Participation & Opt-Out Information
High Rockies Community School (HRCS) administers state-required assessments in accordance with Colorado and federal law. These assessments support accountability, instructional planning, and the school’s accreditation with the Colorado Charter School Institute (CSI).
The assessment calendar above outlines the testing windows for all required state, federal, and school-level assessments.
Parent/Guardian Right to Opt Out
Parents and guardians have the right to excuse their learner from certain state-mandated assessments, as outlined in the HRCS Assessment and Parent Refusal Policy.
-
Opt-out requests apply only to CMAS assessments (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies)
-
ACCESS for ELLs and READ Act assessments are not eligible for opt-out
-
There are no academic or disciplinary consequences for learners who are exempted from eligible state assessments
HRCS is required to maintain a 95% participation rate in state assessments to meet accreditation requirements. While opting out may impact the school’s participation rate, families may choose to exercise this right.
How to Submit an Opt-Out Request
If you choose to opt your learner out of eligible state assessments:
-
Review the HRCS Assessment and Parent Refusal Policy
-
Complete the State Assessment Opt-Out Form
-
Submit the completed form in person to the Executive Director at least one (1) week prior to the scheduled assessment window
Opt-out forms are collected and maintained by the School Assessment Coordinator.
